The task is to produce a piece of art and/or written work which expresses your response to the text below and the project description. Your contribution can use any materials and utilise any medium of the visual arts, such as a simple drawing on paper through to oil on canvas or a piece of sculpture.
They also need creatively written pieces about the circumstances and factors that precipitate different journeys, whether yours or those of others. It’s up to you and what you feel ‘at home with’ or down to how ambitious you want to be. The most important thing is what you have to say. This is not a competition! It doesn’t matter if the meaning isn’t clear nor if it doesn’t emerge quite as you intended, the meaning can be explained with text of your choosing.
What feelings, events, thoughts and
experiences can lead people into unexpected
journeys?
Some common examples:
*bereavement or depression
*a need to conform to peer groups
*a chain of events or just one that lead to a
feeling of low self-esteem
*problematic use of drugs or alcohol by a parent
that became the children’s problem
*a never ending party became a never ending
nightmare
*the intolerable legacy of physical/emotional or
sexual abuse
These are just a few of the common reasons for
the unexpected journey into drug and alcohol
dependency.
We hope that your efforts will help towards
replacing prejudice with tolerance, and ignorance
with understanding. The greater awareness you
help to achieve may result in more support for
the many excellent agencies struggling to provide
services for those of us who
‘shouldn’t have gone there.
