Artists' Statement:

"This painting is a response to my non-relationship with my Father. He was/is an alcoholic and I spent my childhood believing that my life was quite ordinary. Now that I have my own children and a new understanding of 'ordinary', I want to make their early lives so much better than mine. I have been terrified by the thought that I might, someday, somehow, become my Father. Ironically, in quite an enlightening way, it seems the best way to escape from that fear is to drink....a lot. Sometimes, it's your desire to be so different to those that went before you, that makes you the same as them- if that's what they were doing too."
